Unbelieveably Slow MacPro running El Capitan 10.11.6

I'm experiencing serious issues with my MacPro, and a lot of my problems seem to have surfaced when I moved over to El Capitan. My computer boots fine but takes an inordinate length of time - 10-15 minutes - to launch Apple Mail and Creative Suite's InDesign 2015 CC. It's frustrating and I am unsure of what to do. I'm a complete klutz when it comes to the "mechanics" of Macs and their operating system even though I've been working with them since my first SE and PageMaker 1.0. My Macs over the years have run sweetly and I've not encountered anything as what confronts me now. I'm not sure what to do - do I ditch the machine and buy another, or is my MacPro "salvageable"? I came across mention of EtreCheck on a post last evening so I downloaded and ran it today. I'm hoping someone can give me some pointers as to what I do next. Here's the EtreCheck report:

EtreCheck version: 2.9.13 (267)

I've experienced exactly the same thing with my iMac 27" 3.4ghz 16Gb RAM mid 2011 machine. Worked beautifully before and now is ridiculously slow with the upgrade. I tried the hard drive wipe and clean re install to no avail. Like you I've been using Macs since 1991 (I remember Aldus Pagemaker!).

I've found another possible solution; change the HardDrive to an SSD (Crucial or Samsung) and this may help. I plan to do this and will advise. Apple seem to have become really quiet about this, guess they want us to upgrade.

Aug 11, 2016 5:22 PM in response to rogerdodger50

I have the same question too. I also have an iMac 27" late 2013. As soon as I updated to El Capitan my computer was incredibly slow. Since the end of July update to 10.11.6 it's ridiculous! And Rogerdodger50 - I remember Aldus Pagemaker too!)

EtreCheck pulled up a bunch of failed Launch Agents and Daemons - mostly for something I thought I'd uninstalled, so I'll look for those files and delete them.

I usually have to crash most of my Adobe design programs and restart them. They take forever to load. Internet is as slow as molasses.
